The Nutrition Connection

So often, we feel alone in our little lives.  How do we find out new and exciting information about nutrition?  How do we connect with others about nutrition issues and about the latest, most up-to-date details about nutrition and healthy eating.

Most people don’t consider going to nutrition boards and chat boards, but they really are one of the best resources.  Online, you can find oodles of nutrition chat groups and chat boards where people share their experiences, discuss nutrition questions and needs, and find camaraderie and comfort.   These are a great location to find the most up-to-the-minute information, since people are posting in real time about real issues.

In addition, many of these forums offer great recipe tips and other nutritional guidelines that can make your food preparation easier and your menu planner smoother.

For these, and so many other reasons, it’s worth looking into nutrition boards online and getting connected to the nutrition information that is out there!

Obesity in Kids

Obesity has become one of the largest epidemics and issues in America today.  Unfortunately, children are often just as obese as are their adult counterparts.  Childhood obesity can lead to many problems. Certainly, it causes health issues and skyrocketing health care costs for America.  It also leads to depression, low self esteem and other psychological issues in children.

How can parents work to combat this problem? First, children should be up and moving.  They shouldn’t be watching television when they get home from school; they shouldn’t be in front of a Game Boy or other handheld device, or in front of the internet. They should be doing sports, playing with friends in the backyard and enjoying time outdoors.

Nutrition, certainly, also plays a large part in obesity and health in children.  Children need to learn about portion control and about making healthy choices.  They don’t need to be permanently denied snacks and foods that they love the taste of, but they can be taught how to enjoy sweets in moderation and how to eat for health and success.

If you aren’t familiar with the food pyramid, or you don’t know how to start to feed your children better and more nutritious foods, you can do a number of things.  Speak to a nutritionist and make an appointment to meet with one.  Enjoy nutrition forums online that can offer you insights and advice.  Speak with other parents and get ideas from their experiences.
